Taste of Chicago
Chicago, USA
Taste of Chicago is considered to be one of the largest food festivals in the world. The festival showcases Chicago’s amazing culinary delights in addition to live music performances. Chicago also offers some of the best food to sample, including the famous deep-dish pizza.
This 3-day festival is located in Grant Park, a lovely public park with over 300-acres of green space in the downtown area of Chicago. Admission to the festival is free, and it is held in early September, where visitors can still take advantage of the warm weather.
While the focus is on the mouth-watering deep-dish pizza, other iconic items that you must try, include the Chicago-style hot dogs, and Chicago-mix popcorn from Garrett Popcorn.
With the vibrant atmosphere, communal seating, and live performances, solo female travelers can enjoy a variety of amazing food and connect with other visitors. Alternatively, you can immerse yourself in the surroundings and people-watch.
During your solo getaway to Chicago, there are many other fantastic activities that are also right in the heart of the city. Personally, it’s one of my favourite cities to visit in the USA.

Held at the end of March, this festival is one of Australia’s biggest celebrations of food and drink, hosting over 100 events over a period of 10 days.
One of the festival’s signature event is the World’s Longest Lunch which is a sit-down meal consisting of a three-course lunch from a highlighted chef. It’s a unique dining experience where the food is served across a long table that’s more than 600 meters long.
For those traveling alone, there’s plenty of organized communal events where you can meet and participate in an activity with other food enthusiasts. Join a restaurant crawl, an organized dinner, or attend a wine tasting. You’ll find a diverse mix of cuisines, and a laid-back atmosphere at the festival.
Why Are Food Festivals Great for Solo Travelers?
One of the best things about traveling by yourself is getting to plan an itinerary based on your interests. Food festivals often offer a casual atmosphere where you can walk around, browse, and comfortably do things at your own pace. There’s also a multitude of activities to keep single travelers busy.
Food festivals also often have communal tables which encourage socializing. It can be easier to start up a conversation over the shared love of food! Some festivals have organized activities or events such as a cooking workshop or a group tasting. I find that these can be an awesome way to do a fun activity while interacting with others.
The vast selection of culinary offerings is another reason why food festivals are amazing. You get to try many top dishes all in one spot. Lastly, the festivals are exciting! Along with food-related activities, there can be live performances, music and dancing.
