I have read numerous times on TSM posts that you should forget Manila and head straight for Angeles. Comments like " Manila is a filthy city polluted with traffic and far too expensive etc." True, it is a busy capital, it has pollution as has most places along with poverty and poor roads etc. It is more expensive, as all capital cities are. However, I will defend Manila and it is worth a long look. Now to Angeles.
Angeles is a small city and is under developed in many ways. Its like an old wild west town, rough and ready, and exciting too. It is much cheaper than Manila. The traffic is not such a problem. The quality is harder to find and in far fewer numbers. But you can and indeed do still get great value in Angeles, it is just harder to find the 9's and 10's. If your looking for a "real-girlfriend" though, this is the place to find her -- for the single male not many places compare to Angeles City.
|
Firstly as a way of a brief introduction too Angeles, most of you will know this is a small city about two hours (80 kilometers) north of Manila. It was the center of activity built around the old "Clark U.S.Air Force base" The Bar scene was built with the Servicemen in mind. Since the closure of Clark the City is now totally geared towards tourists and the clubs are alive, kicking and just waiting for you. Angeles is not a major city, neither has it got all the quality and amenities that you expect even in Manila!
The city is has been called a "Wild West Town, type of place" which is pretty accurate. There are no Taxi's to speak of for example and getting around is by Trike, Jeepney or on foot. Although, you can hire a motorbike at Swagman Travel for example for P500 a day. The streets are dirty, broken and much of the area in non-paved. There is trash on the streets and you might fall into a pothole if you don't look were you are walking. As strange as this may seem, it is one of my favorite cities to nose around and explore -- it is so much fun and you never know what to expect as you walk down an unknown alley (be carefull though as to what you may find -- yes, this is what to expect -- but be warned, many some are Bacala's, men pretending to be women) or open a bar door and there is your dream girl smiling back at you. Jesus, what a place!
Yes, there is no crystal clear beaches, tennis clubs (although a golf club is
available, fancy restaurants or sophisticated night life -- what is does have is
hundreds of small bars, each with 30-50 girls. Let's see a 200 (low estimate) x 50
=1,000 girls and all waiting for you :-)
Angeles is definitely a single man's paradise if "chilling out" and lazing
around swimming pools and bars is what your after...(aren't we all??) The main action
is centered around Fields Ave. which runs along the perimeter of the old Air Base.
CLARK AIRPORT
It is said that the airport will be open again next year for international flights
coming in direct from the States. I heard San Francisco as one route that will be
used. When this happens, (remember Philippine time it could be another three years
yet) the area will take off again and be ultra busy. You can get some domestic flights
from Manila too Clark now, but make sure you take some elastic bands with you just
in case the propeller needs one or two. There are also flying lessons available at
Clark for those brave enough..
SWAGMAN TRAVEL OFFICE Fields Ave.
932 C Fields Ave.
Balibago
Angeles City
Tel # (63) 045-8920378
Fax # (63) 0455-6022890
As I said you can Hire a motorbike here for P500 per day. You will need you ID and
driving License but very little else. The bikes looked OK too me but, I'd make damn
sure I checked the brakes and other important things like that out
before I ride anything in the Philippines.
Swagman Travel can also change money for you and arrange cash advances on all major
Credit Cards like American Express, Visa and Mastercard. They charge 8% for that.
Flights can be booked and excursions to most of the resorts can be booked here as
well.
A "Fly the Bus" service is available with them too Manila and Subic,
La Union, Baguio etc., etc. Prices are cheap enough. So don't expect comfort as they
drive like idiots most of the time.
Next door to Swagman Travel you will find a film developing service for all your
"tasteful shots of you girlfriends" they are cheap and efficient. Next
door to that you'll find the 24 hour supermarket again, essential for all those provisions
like San Miguel and Cigarettes. Just beyond that is the "Famous Margaritaville"
but more on that later.
DOWNTOWN
You can get down town by trike (yes, Angeles has a real town and it is not Fields
Ave.) or we even flagged down an empty Jeepney who took us where ever we wanted for
several hours for P100. If you need to go down town you will find the Casino Filipino
there and numerous restaurants as well as McDonalds JOLLYBEE etc.
IMMIGRATION
If you need a visa extension as I did you will find the immigration Office situated
down 7th Street a short trike ride from Fields. I think it cost me about P700 for
a extension of one month. It was done surprisingly quick and efficiently for the
Philippines after about five minutes! Surely a record -- 7th street is of MacArthur
Highway.
ANGELES CITY (what to expect) ...
Again I would want to stress firstly, that Angeles is not Manila. Everything is
so much cheaper than in the capital, but the quality in almost every respect is lower
than Manila. If you don't mind "roughing it" and generally looking at Angeles
as a small dusty shit hole of a town where the men are men and the women are very
friendly, then this is the place for you!
To be fair by western standards Angeles is a far out dump of a place, but it is also
a single guys heaven, and the people as everywhere in the Philippines are friendly
and nice. The hotels are inexpensive, the food is generally very good and I loved
the place, so laid back it was a dream. But it may not suit everyone's tastes, so
be warned it is not a paradise, just nocturnal bliss.
There are dozens of bars and
pick up places, and thousands of women! But the girls here I thought by my fairly
high standards were generally average in the looks department. Manila is far superior
on that score. The costumes in the bars are far less revealing than in Manila. (Different
by-laws in the provinces). But that has never really bothered me and it should not
put you off this experience of a lifetime! I found the women in Angeles to be more
friendly and actually looking for a real boy friend than Manila.
THE PRICES
San Miguel Drinks here range from P35 - P50 (less in happy hours). Ladies Drinks
range from P70-P100. Tips are up to the individual and " not mandatory."
Most girls are happy with trike money (a few pesos) to get her home if you decide
to pay the leaving fee -- some men are touched by the warmth and effort of their
new loves and leave a little extra. Again, it is in the eye of the beholder :-).
TRANSPORTATION
Trikes are the norm here and are cheap and inexpensive if a little "bumpy"
and uncomfortable. From Vegas to The Heart of Fields Ave. (Lolipop) is P30 to 40
( depending on time of night). A jeepney will also take you up and down to Fields
Ave. as there is a terminus at the start of Fields Ave. for P2 -- or you could walk
(twenty five minutes from Woodlands or Vegas).
THE BARS (for current bar information join our monthly
e-mail newsletter)
There are numerous bars up and down Fields Ave. and off the various side streets,
I was there for four weeks and I don't think I saw all of them! There were some closed
down like the Fire Station and others were opening whilst I was there like Private
Dancer Too, and Mudbones as well as another that opened on my last night that I simply
forget the name of. It can be hard to keep track of things, especially after so many
San Miguels.
Last thought here is talk to your girl before you make a date. In a noisy bar she'll just nod at your small talk but back in your room you'll realize she (from the provinces and new to Angeles) speaks little English. Of course, talking and communicating might not be on your mind :-), but this is the best way to make a new friend.
THE TOUR BEGINS (bars and hotels) ....
(Map of area reviewed)
Friendship Gate, Friendship Highway Angeles:
Starting at the far end of the Clark Zone at Friendship Highway you are recommended to try out "THE TRUE BLUE RESTAURANT", this is a great place to eat with a emphasis on wine, dine and entertainment. They do a wide and varied menu with both local and international cuisine. Try their rack of New Zealand lamb or one of the many fish dishes.
They have a delicatessen as well called Avalon, which has a wide range of items not available elsewhere in Angeles. In the evening they often have a cabaret with a singer and piano. This is a class Restaurant for the Clark Area.
Don Juico Ave (Perimeter Road) Clarkview:
At the top end of Perimeter Road is Don Juico Ave, which is rapidly springing back into life after years of neglect following the eruption of Mount Pinatubo.
There have been a few Karaoke type bars and restaurants there before, but even more with several go-go type bars are opening all the time now.
Along the top end near Friendship, is the:
Oasis Hotel
Clarkview Compound
Angeles City
Pampanga
This is one of Angeles leading and premiere hotels. Set on Clarkview Compound it has excellent business class facilities and rooms. The Junior Suites are the best designed rooms in Angeles and are very spacious and luxurious.
There are over a hundred rooms and special promo offers are available all year round through Beeline Travel. It has all the facilities you would require with Cable TV and complimentary in house movies. Unwind with a nightcap in the Old English style pub or round of your evening with a drink or a game ofpool at the swimming pool bar. The Maranao Grill offers the best in elegant dining. With cuisine ranging from International, American and local dishes to satisfy all.
Another Restaurant well worth visiting whilst in this area is the American run, Cottage Kitchen Cafe this cajun-creole restaurant has many specialized dishes as well as a full menu.
Right next door to them you will find the Executive mini club, and next door to that:
The ODORIKO Bar
592 Don Juico Ave
Clarkview
Angeles
This Japanese run go-go type bar makes a refreshing change from the normal Karaoke type bars the Japanese normally run. Several of which are situated along Don Juico Ave as well.
It has a large and spacious bar area, with a stage and mirrors on one side. Seating along the front of the stage and some seating booths running along the opposite wall.
The bar is well designed for itís purpose as a go-go bar and has a small raised area as a dance floor at the far end of the bar. It is well lit and a friendly place to relax and enjoy a drink.
The bar opens at 2pm and closes at 2am. There are two shifts, of dancers and GROís. One set for the afternoon the other for the evening. They change over at 8pm.
Local drinks are P25 during happy hour, which runs from 5pm through until 9pm. Ladies drinks start at P90 and run through to P150 for some of the imported drinks.
The Odoriko has also joined our scheme of "buy one get one free" local drinks so call into the office when in town and collect your coupon.
PINK PUSSYCAT Bar
592 B & C Don Juico Ave
Clarkview,
Angeles City
Right next door to the Odoriko is the The Pink Pussycat this one of the bigger, more well established local type bars located up Perimeter Road.
The bar is large and spacious inside, with a lounge area for a relaxing drink to enjoy some warm friendly hospitality from the GROís. There is an area for pool and even darts. The bar has some teams in local leagues that ex-pats and visitors are always made welcome to play a game or two, over an ice- cold beer or three!
There is a stage with some dancers and even a go-go type cage for the girls to dance their socks off in. Prices, here as in most local bars away from the tourist orientated Fields Ave, are far less expensive, and that helps those on a budget.
Local Drinks at the Pink Pussycat are P20 (only!) whilst a ladies drink is P80. They are open from 10am through until 1am and have a happy hour from 10am through until 8pm.
The bar manager, "Fritz" will make you feel real welcome, and has joined our discount voucher scheme. So call into the beeline office in Kokomos, and collect your "buy one get one free" local drinks voucher.
Round the Corner is the ..
.
FOXYS Bar
Southern Star Hotel
1934 Sampaguita St
Clarkview
Angeles.
FOXYS BAR with some of the best decor in the whole of Angeles.
The center stage is in the shape of a hexagon, with seating all around, is well designed. Again the web style bikini outfits are very fetching, and they have some secluded and tastefully styled booths where you can sit andchat in relatively luxurious surrounds.
Definitely a place to try out, and guests at the:
Southern Star Hotel
1934 Sampaguita St
Clarkview
Angeles City

The Southern Star Hotel has recently changed Management and, has been thoroughly
re-vamped. The hotel caters for budget class accommodation, and is fairly high standard
for budget class visitors. The Southern Star now have, not only a bar (Foxys)
on site but, several others just a two minute walk away.
The hotel has a hacuzzi attached to the swimming pool and nice garden area attached
to the bar/restaurant. The management, are currently developing the hotel further
and are to include a pool room attached to Foxys. There is already a pool table and
darts within the bar/restaurant
area.
The rooms are spacious.
Again, on line with most hotels in AC who are twice as expensive. They come equipped
with a queen-sized bed, cable TV, and Air Con. One suite bathroom with hot and cold
water and, 24 hour room service. We would recommend the deluxe rooms.
We again, would highly recommend this hotel if you are, looking for economy/budget
class accommodation. It is located just a short trike ride from Fields or you can
also catch a Jeepney through to Checkpoint.
To complete the section around these fine establishments is the Samurai Karaoke. For those that enjoy a good sing-along, or for those who think they are a budding Frank Sinatra, after a few beers;-)
Take a short walk down from there, still heading towards Fields Ave and you will see, The Sun Korean Restaurant, and Geraldines which does a fine Mongolian BBQ Also Elizas pub.
Down again, and you will come to the trike terminal where the Hotel La Casa is located.
Hotel La Casa
511 Tamarind Street,
Clarkview Subd,
Angeles City
This is a small, six bed roomed, family run hotel with a cozy and comfortable
feel about it. It is very much a Bed and Breakfast type of place, with nice sized
air con rooms available for as little as P355 a day if your stay is a month or more.
(normal rate P475 per day)
There are remote control TVís in the rooms with Queen Sized Beds and a mini-bar. On suite bathroom with hot and cold water shower. The size and quality of the rooms are comparable to some of those Hotels who charge twice as much!
The food is good and again, "homely." There is the Blue Boar Inn attached that serves drinks and food at very reasonable prices. The bar has a pool table, TV showing video movies, and two dart boards. There are also several GROís in attendance for your relaxation and enjoyment. The owner Jimmy D is from the States and is a perfect host. We can highly recommend this Hotel if you are looking for a budget class Hotel.
Just around the corner from the Hotel La Casa is the local branch of the VFW Club. The Club has good inexpensive food and is a regular hangout for many American Ex-Pats. The VFW organizes many special events and occasions and is well worth a visit or two.
Further again, down the road is the latest Restaurant to hit town. The Spaghetti Factory with a wide variety of pasta dishes. Also, I believe it has now been re-named as Wild Bills place. They are located at 520 Don Juico Ave and take out orders are available on 892-7750 They also offer FREE E-Mail to their customers (nice touch).
Then you reach another new bar BUBBLES (1) It is run by the people who run Thunderstruck down on Fields, and is a truly well designed and nice afternoon bar. It has rapidly become one of the meeting places for the Mad Dogs however, even non-bikers are welcome and it is another very welcome addition to the Clark Area.
Now we have reached the Malabanias complex area starting with GARFIELDS BAR who have recently added a mini go-go bar type area. Just around the corner from Garfields is THE SILVER FOX. This is an excellent small cozy type of bar with several attractive GROís to entertain you. Again inexpensive and friendly is the order of the day.
Back on Perimeter road and a couple of doors down from Garfields is The American Legion another venue for ex-pats, and next door to them is PECO PETES this is a good drinking bar with a pool table and several GROís currently dressed in basketball outfits. Real cute, I can't recall Michael Jordan ever looking so good!
Right next door is Angeles latest addition. THE OTHER BAR is rapidly becoming a favorite afternoon bar for many locals and tourists a like. This inexpensive bar, has three small circular stages and has some very nice dancers to entertain you. On the next street corner you will find possibly the best Mexican Restaurant in town. The CORONA CANTINA offers all the best spicy Mexican dishes with a Mexican feel and atmosphere about the place.
On the next street corner you will find another Beeline recommended hotel ...
The PHOENIX HOTEL
810 Malabanias Cor, Perimeter Road
Angeles City
Philippines
Nearly always fully booked all year round, that alone speaks volumes for the hotel
itself. The hotel has 33 spacious, comfortable and affordable rooms. Each room is
fully carpeted and includes cable TV with HBO, mini-bars, air-conditioning, telephones
and 24 hour room service with a full menu. There is also a restaurant and bar area
and a poolside bar and grill. Rooms
come as Standard or Deluxe.
Down Malabanias St. itself you will come through the, Premiere Hotel and the popular TSM friendly:
Embassy Court
Malabanias Road
Ballbago
Angeles City
A new Hotel opened in November 1997. The Vegas is a economy quality Hotel with
a good quality Swimming Pool, a Conference room, Restaurant with pool side tables
for meals as well. It has a pool table within the pool area.
The reception area is spacious as is attended until 11pm at night. It has 24 hour Security, and very friendly staff. There is a bar as well inside serving drinks and light refreshments as well as food from the Restaurant. You can leave your valuables at reception with one of their safety deposit boxes free of charge.

Rooms are clean well designed and have a well
stocked mini bar and fridge. There is cable TV and A/C A cheap and efficient Laundry
Service is available, as is room service until 11pm. The hotel is very clean and
TSM Friendly and all of the staff are great.
All rooms have an on suite bathroom with a shower. It is a very quiet hotel as well,
and often you can get the swimming pool almost exclusively too yourself -- GREAT.
The hotel itself also runs the occasional day trip or excursion to some resorts in
the area and has occasional pool side entertainment including Scuba Diving Lessons.
They offer a exclusive Beeline/TSM Discount package offering upto 20% off rooms and
food and bar bills. Contact Beeline for more details. Another Hotel on Malabanias
Road is:
Opposite the Vegas Hotel you will find :
RUMOURS BAR
Situated literally across the road from the Vegas Hotel is RUMOURS
Night Club
/Bar.
It opened appropriately on Feb 14th 1998. This has now firmly become established
as a GREAT afternoon bar. They open at 2 pm and run through to 11 pm.
This is a great place to start your adventure in Angeles and is open well before
most of the bars/clubs along Fields Ave (4/5pm).
Inside there is a stage with upwards of 25 girls
now employed and dancing their socks off -- the atmosphere here is generally great
with some nice staff,
including Yolie and Jasmine behind the bar and believe me guy's you will not find
a better looking D.J anywhere in the Philippines than Marianne :-). The music is
good with the right mixture of oldies Rock n' Roll
and Disco stuff mostly supplied by myself! There are video screens showing "Mr.
Bean" and various entertaining tapes such as a Motorcycle Crash Tape which appears
to be popular.
There is a pool table within as well. The location is perfect, next to three or four Hotels in Malabinias Road, just off Fields Ave. It's early opening time is ideal for patrons of the hotels to pop over during the afternoon (Vegas, Lord, Premiere, Sunset Gardens, Lafayete and The American Hotels are all very close by). Located at the back of Rumours is ...
"NEW" RUMOURS HOTEL
The new Rumours Hotel offers some great newly designed luxury rooms with access to a Jacuzzi room as well. The rooms are all fully air-conditioned with remote control cable TV and mini-bar. You have access to the Vegas Swimming pool across the road and the usual Beeline/Tsm discounts are also available.
Around the corner and based at was formerly the Captain Cook Hotel is the LAFAYETTE HOTEL which also houses the excellent Déjà vu Nightclub with itís live bands and itís entertaining GROís as well as fine dining.
Perimeter Road down through Fields Ave:
Turning back out onto Perimeter Road and heading towards Fields from Malabianas St you will see on the right hand side of the road a ex-pat bar, Moondoggies which has a pool table and a couple of dart boards. This is a fine place to just hang out in a chat the day or night away with some of the local ex-pats.
Right next door is Jerryís Cafe again another nice little ex-pat Restaurant that serves good inexpensive food all day. Further down you reach Flying Machine this is very similar to the Silver Fox, and has a host of GROís to entertain you whilst enjoying a cold beer.
Edelweiss Restaurant offers all the best in Swiss cuisine and makes a nice change, this is located just before you reach the new Airport Terminal Building. Somewhat strangely named, as it does not have an actual Airport attached to it. (only in the Philippines). Within, you will find Dominoes Pizza and Swagman Travel as well as a new business internet center and a cafe.
Down then past the market and across from Checkpoint (The Jeepney terminal) you will reach first a row of Money changers booths, which of course are essential. Most will offer you the best daily rates available and are recommended for changing your cash into Pesos.
The first of the Bars upon Fields Ave itself is Archies a large
and spacious Australian run bar, wi
th a center stage and a pool table. There are plenty of
friendly dancers and the bar has a good happy hour.
JJís Supermarket is the next landmark you will approach ideal place to get the provisions you might need. Right next door is the newly re-named Margarita Station a landmark and institution of Angeles for many years now. Always plenty of activities, within. Good inexpensive food, and drinks. Margarita, also have a business center which they are expanding. The owner JC, is a great host and make sure you say hi to one of the most knowledgeable men in Angeles.
Walk on down then to the start of the main bar area along Fields. Beginning with another Australian run bar, The Club, an excellent place to visit always friendly staff welcome you and as well as the usual happy hour, The Club frequently arranges and runs promo and special event evenings. Lots of dancers and nice costumes.
Right next door is Private Dancer another friendly bar well worth visiting with lots of dancers and a good well run bar with the normal happy hours.
Next door to that is Voodoo on of the better known bars, and highly recommended for their music tastes alone. This is a smaller bar but, very lively with a lot of really nice looking dancers. Rock is the order of the day ask them to play their special Bon Jovi video that features some great clips that the owners have put together, or the Video of Angeles past. Great entertainment. The Videos were put together by Margarita Station.
Tsm members only -- don't miss the Voodoo Tsm Specials -- just for you :-)
The girls are dressed in cut-off tee-shirts and denim shorts look real fetching
and a refr
eshing change from the bikini look. Good happy hour and part of the chain
of Bars run by Daddy Dave that offers a special P500 drink to you drop offer, that
allows you to drink as many local drinks as you want from noon until 5am daily. Tickets
available at the bar or Kokomos.
Walking down from Voodoo you will see the patio bar of Tahiti Queen, an ideal venue for just watching the night pass away over a beer with a friend or one of the attractive friendly waitresses. Next door is the TQ bar itself, fully Air-conditioned and has a good happy hour with a raffle every day.
Ziggys is the next bar you will reach in this block. Another of the Daddy Dave group with all the usual offers connected with his bars. Ziggys, again mainly features rock style music with a pool table and a good bar to enjoy a few hours of your evening.
The Valahala Bar is next door. Formerly the Viking Bar, this Nordic run establishment is again another friendly bar with a good atmosphere, and located at the end of this block of bars is The Jungle (Old Connections) better known as an afternoon bar again it features plenty of attractive dancers with a pool table.
The next block you come to houses Illusions another great bar well worth a few visits.
Illusions also has a pool table as well as friendly staff and attractive dancers and costumes. In the street immediately before this block down the alleyway you will see and hear because they usually have a few girls sitting outside saying "sir, this way" a quiet bar, probably because of itís location off the main Fields Strip.
Butterfly also has a good happy hour and a pool table as well as some very pretty dancers. Incidentally next door to the Butterfly you will find Shooters Bar, which I believe has the only snooker table in Angeles.
Back out on Fields and next door to Illuisions is Roadhouse this bar also plays a lot of rock style music. A well designed bar, with attractive dancers and costumes. The dancers perform choreographed dance routines all night. They have some excellent videos and even hand out free snacks.
In between these two bars and located upstairs is:
Salvatores Italian Restaurant.
300 Fields Ave
Balibago,
Angeles City.
Tel: 785-3340
Salvatores is situated along Fields Ave between Illusions and Roadhouse Bars. The restaurant is upstairs and is nicely design with good decor. The Italian Pizzaria and Restarante has some of the finest cuisine and is very competitively priced in the area.
Believe me this is one establishment along Fields that has NOT increased it prices in FOUR YEARS! The menu is wide and varied and the Pizzaís are without doubt the finest in Angeles. This is a nice place to eat out and relax with a "friend" and the owner Sal will make you most welcome. There is also a full Bar to offer liquid refreshments to really enjoy your meal and evening at The Best Italian Restaurant in Angeles City. Salvatores is now open at lunch times as well from 11.30am until 2pm.
A better pizza would be extremely hard to find in Angeles and they also, do a delicious fresh mussels range, along with some great homemade ice cream and Apple pie. This Restaurant is an absolute must for visitors to Angeles. In the afternoon the do a great honey roast BBQ chicken as well and the prices are really inexpensive.
Raymon St:
O.K. walk on down from Roadhouse until you come to the next road junction on the right. This Street is Raymon St and the first bar you come to is Stingers, another great bar, with plenty of ultra friendly dancers and staff. Again a bar with a pool table. Well worth putting on your must visit list. Further down is Private Dancer Too donít confuse this with the other Private Dancer. This is a large bar with a stage and dance floor area, which has all the usual go-go bar feel about it. At the back though they have two full sized pool tables and this is a good bar to hang out in. Also down Raymon St you will find Roys Bar, The English Pub, Drop Inn and the Million Dollar Lodge a inexpensive place for rooms, food and drink.
Talking of ice -- it is almost impossible to avoid the ice in the Philippines,
but if you do take it with drinks don't be surprised if you pick up a sore throat
on your trip. Drink bottled water only and avoid ice where possible.
Several posts have said they have tried out the street sellers with their various
barbecues and foods etc. Be prepared to visit the CR (COMFORT ROOM) several times
the next day if you are brave enough to do this. Most hotels have a doctor on call
and very reasonable if you do get sick.
ALWAYS KEEP MONEY AND VALUABLES IN HOTEL SAFETY DEPOSIT BOXES although you would get some very strange looks if you tried to deposit you condom supply as well!
A last warning is gaming scams. A tout (will say he works at your hotel) will
offer you a free ride and a meal. Before you know it your gambling (illegal here)
in his back room and down a few hundred dollars! Be cautious with new friends (male
or female) and those beauties on the left side of BJ alley are guys :-).
Real St:
Opposite the Private Dancer Too Bar, runs Real St. With the first place on the right hand side, being the Orchid Inn Hotel. On the left, Black Jacks Bar which is a lively and fun bar with an upstairs Black Jacks Restaurant well worth visiting with itís outside balcony patio to sit and enjoy a meal from itís Swiss menu.
Back across the other side of the street is Cartoons Bar again this
is a fairly spacious bar
with lots of dancers
and friendly staff to appease the eye. Opposite ag
ain is the Goldengate Bar
this formerly Korean run bar has recently undergone a fresh look and a change of
management and is now well worth looking into. They have a booth outside where you
can have your picture taken and then transferred onto a tee-shirt. Cool idea.
Next door to them are Cleopatras
Bar a German run bar again with a large bar area and stage. Several interesting
swings and poles on stage that the well costumed dancers can entertain themselves
as well as you with. The bar is one of the nicer bars in town for sure. The Australian
run Anchorage Inn Hotel is next door again a inexpensive place to stay.
Sandwiching the Anchorage, on the other side is the Night Out Bar.
One of Angeles newer establishments, the design is excellent. The dancers and staff
friendly, and they have a large video screen splitting the stage to show music videos
or any of the major sporting events, which makes this one of the more popular bars
in town. The Night Out has also opened an outside patio bar
for meals and pool and is located right next door.
Along the left hand side as you walk down Real St past Night out you will see the Wantok Bar then the Duke Of York before reaching Kosmos the third of Daddy Dave's Bars. Kosmos, formerly Mudbones is another different type of bar from the go-go type bars you normally associate with Angeles. This bar, again has a pool table but also several dimly lit booths and some GRO's and Dancers that will keep you company and entertain you with a game of Twister even! A fun, and refreshingly different bar. Next door to Kosmos is Midnight Rodeo, which plays live music most nights with a Country and Western theme.
Opposite Kosmos is Lollipop the fourth of Daddy Dave's bars. Excellently well designed bar which also has a pool table. The stage is well designed and has several booths over looking the stage. There is a TSM corner and a Wrecking Crew Corner. This bar as all of Daddy Daveís Bars not only does the P500 drink 'til you drop offer but also offers TSM members a 10% discount (more1,2,3).
Just down from Lollipop you will see the Park Chicago Hotel with Cuddles Bar and Restaurant attached. Cuddles, is a great, almost undiscovered bar, from what I have witnessed. The dance area is nice the dancers even nicer, and the service always friendly. There is again a pool table and a restaurant that serves great food. The Sunday Lunch is real delicious.
Back out the other side of Lollipop is Santos St. Directly opposite Lollipop is the Caddy Shack, home of the Balibago Social Golf Club. Also along Santos Street you will find The Black Pearl, Queen Teller, and Flaming Bars.
Back up Santos towards Fields you will reach Kokomos
which has of course a 24hour Restaurant and Busin
ess Center. As well as being the
location for Beeline Travel Services. Kokomos is the premiere 24 hour
Restaurant bar/internet
center in the area and has been open a year now. There is a TSM message board
as well. By the way their is also a beauty parlour there if you want a manicure.
(a secret for readers -- best place to observe the best of Angeles??). Plant yourself in front of the e-mail message board and watch the ladies check for e-mail! The parade is constant and I meet two girlfriends this way, just saying, " I've love to send you e-mail, can I have your address." My favorite spot in Angeles (day or night)
They have a wide and varied menu. They also have a gym upstairs and have now installed a small sari-sari store for you provisions.
They play Bingo their from Fri-Sun afternoons and show films as well. The have a bright and fresh establishment where you can read a paper and relax over a meal and a drink. There is a special buffet run Fri-Sunday and you can rent a motorbike, or even send your sweat heart some flowers. There is a beauty parlor and Boutique inside and Kokomos is a must visit place in Angeles.
EXECUTIVE CARS
1913 Mc Arthur Highway
Balibago
Angeles City
For those wishing to hire a private self drive car whilst in the Philippines we can highly recommend using Executive Cars. Formerly Hertz, Executive Cars have a range of quality cars and Vans, with full back up service. They have offices in Manila as well as Angeles and you can book through Beeline Travel and get a discount off their published rates.
On the otherside of the road is Panama Jacks Bar a cozy little bar
with some nice dancers and costumes. A friendly bar and well worth stopping off at
and having a couple of cold ones. Again going back up Fields towards Checkpoint,
the next bar you come to is La Bamba, full to overflowing with
good atmosphere and friendly service, La Bamba have a great happy hour
with draft beer only P25 a lively bar where anytime is the right
time to visit.
The next bar up is Cozy Cleoís the sister bar to Cleopatras in Real St. Cozy by name Cozy by nature, next door to that is Y Bar another of the smaller go-go bars packed with entertainment and value. Mr TSM loved the place with a very friendly mamasan the girls lined up to have their photos taken, and were dancing their panties off for him (lucky guy). Here is why Tsm liked it so much 1,2,3)
Then we reach the newly refurbished DMZ Bar with itís outside patio and a spacious area inside where you can enjoy a drink whilst watching the dancers or take in a game of pool.
Right next door is the newest complex to Angeles. Angeles Broadway which house the Titanic Bar clearly a lot of time and investment went into this to make it one of the more attractive locations on Fields. It is designed to have a class and quality feel about it and although a little on the expensive side it is surely a welcomed addition to Fields (just closed, but maybe Daddy Dave is going to buy, stay tunned).
Don't forget to pop into Rick's Cafe to watch one of the latest movies over a drink or a meal with friends. Rick's also has Internet access and other valuable services.
Opposite the Broadway is Papilion Bar named after its sister bar in Makati, this is also another welcomed quality establishment to Fields and has plenty of nice dancers and GRO's in a well designed with nice decor to the eye. Not by any means over priced either.
Next door to them is the Birds of Paradise Bar & Restaurant This is the home to the local branch of the Hash runners for those that enjoy a run. It also does good food and has a pool table and two dartboards drinks are inexpensive to.
Club Fantastic is also located in this block next door to Papilion, another go-go bar with a friendly approach towards itís customers. Opposite Kokomos you will see Cackatoo (old Lovehearts) newly named and opened after the closure of Granduer. This is no longer Korean owned and worth a visit and time to see how it develops. Next door is Lash and this bar is again real friendly and nice, and now has some of the best bikinis in town. Lots of very pretty dancers and the service is excellent.
Running down that side of the street now, the next bar you reach is The Welcome Inn, another bar that opens early and seems to specialize in seeing the GROís give you an excellent back massage whilst enjoying your drink. The Champagne Bar is again one of the better establishments along Fields a Quality bar in every respect and one of the most popular bars in town. Full most nights this bar has excellent decor, dancers, staff and is a great place to visit. A couple of Restaurant/pubs well worth dropping in on are Estrellaís BBQ and Woodyís Fun Pub.
Woodys Bar & Restaurant
Fields Ave.
Angeles City
Woodys Bar and Restaurant is a nice quiet, and friendly bar with an English Pub theme.
There is a pool table and a piano for sing-a-longs. The bar area is large and spacious,
with table seating to enjoy a variety of different dishes, including English food.
The staff, are friendly, cute and charming. Woody's is an ideal place to drop in
for a inexpensive meal or a nice quiet drink with a "friend". It also has
cable TV to watch the latest sport, news and events over that drink (check out
their bar and
cute bartenders
:-)).
Further down then you will arrive at The Tropicana Hotel which has a nice pool area and inexpensive rooms. Within the Tropicana complex you will find Molly Malones Restaurant which does the best roast buffet in town. Attached is Mistys which adds to the complex with a great bar and great girls entertaining you the whole night. They also run a shuttle service from their to the new Diamond & Gold Club in Dau
Back across the road now and Top Hat is the home of the recently
crowned Miss Condom (see news stori
es later) This sizeable bar has been improving all the time
and is well worth a few visits during your time in Angeles. Next door is Valentines
Bar another very popular bar in the area, that does frequent theme nights.
Check them out.
Bubbles two and Thunderstruck are next with the later, being the popular drinking venue for the Mad Dogs. A good bar with food also available. Then back up towards Kokomos the last Bar we feature in this part is Jakeís Happy Hooker again with an outside patio bar to watch the evening go by. A nice friendly bar inside as well.
MacArthur Highway:
As you hit the very bottom of Fields Ave you will come through to MacArthur Highway the main thoroughfare of the area connecting Angeles City to Dau.
Turn right and head towards Angeles City and one of the first places you will come to is Johnnys Supermarket, which has a wide variety of provisions and upstairs they have a hardware and stationary store.
There are a couple of local bars along here to although they are only drinking bars with some GRO's attached to them. You will also up one of the streets on the right the Roman Spa Sauna you can have a Roman Bath plus massage here and/or a jacuzzi whilst enjoying a relaxing, and soothing massage. They have a fishbowl type of reception area where you can choose your masseuse. Inexpensive as well. Beyond them down that street are a couple of Karaoke Bars.
You will also see plenty of Restaurants worth trying out to and some Karaoke Bars. Also a few local drinking bars, such as the Iron Horse, that the locals tend to use more than tourists but, have some GRO's working within.
The first restaurant you reach that we highly recommend is the Kingfisher Restaurant. This excellent seafood restaurant will appease all who enjoy good seafood and at a very inexpensive price.
Further down you will reach the Casino Filipino for those who like to chance their arm and maybe lose their shirt on the roulette wheel or at Blackjack.J Always worth a visit, even if it is only on the odd occasion.
Behind the Casino, you will see the ...
Century Resort Hotel
MacArthur Highway
Angeles City
Philippines.
The Century Resort Hotel is located on MacArthur Highway in Angeles right next door to the Casino Filipino. This is a business class Hotel with a Grand Ballroom for business and banquets seating 400 people.
Rooms are spacious, clean and of a top quality for Angeles City. There is a swimming pool 24 hour room service, with cable TV and A/C as well as The Grille restaurant, Patio Bar and grill, Ballroom, and Odeum Disco. If you are looking for a real quality hotel in Angeles. That is within a 10-15 minute walk to Fields Ave, then this may well be the place for you.
Across the road and virtually opposite the Casino you will see ...
Marlim Mansions
MacArthur Highway
Balibago
Angeles City
Philippines
The Marlim Mansions is situated on MacArthur Highway almost opposite the Century Resort Hotel. Is another higher quality hotel that offers business class accommodation. Rooms again are spacious with A/C, cable TV, bar fridge and bathroom. The Marlim Mansions, is again a short walk away from Fields Ave area and they have a night club called Dunk Shot situated just at the back of the Hotel.
As a night out you may like then to try the Dunk Shot Night Club located at the back of Marlim Mansions. This bar offers a cabaret type show with a singer and then a succession of very attractive "models" who dance and parade and leave very little to the imagination. Sometimes called a "showgirl bar" The Dunk Shot is another to add on to your places to visit.
Further down MacArthur towards Angeles is a place located near the Market known as "the area" we can only advise that this area is seedy, and dangerous and really should be avoided (if you must, go in a group and with a local).
Back now to the Fields Ave junction with MacArthur Highway this time turning left ...
The only real place up this way, worth mentioning is in Dau itself, well past MacDonalds etc. A new bar called the Diamond and Gold Bar coming under a different Barangay and Mayor, so this bar has less restrictions than those on Fields Ave it is one of the most popular venues at the moment.
Other places worthy of mentioning up MacArthur are the U & I massage and sauna center on First St, which also has one or two local type bars situated along it. Another place worth mentioning is the Immigration Office, which is located on 7'th street. A visa extension can be gained here at very little expense and will probably be needed because three weeks is hardly long enough to explore Angeles let alone the Philippines.

Got a tooth ache, need a filling, full denture, oral prophylaxis or ??? in Angeles, look here :-) |
More dancers, get ready :-) -- (2,3,4,5,6)
TO CONCLUDE, THE BARS in MANILA & ANGELES
Philippines Environs! -- Getting my girlfriend home!
I WOULD REMIND YOU THAT PRICES QUOTED ARE SUBJECT
TO CHANGE AND DO VARY. THEY ARE A GUIDE, NOT A RULE AND WERE CORRECT AT THE TIME
OF THE TRIP. INFLATION AND THE EXCHANGE RATE, AND THE DEVALUATION OF THE PESO EFFECTS
THINGS ALMOST DAILY. ALWAYS "SHOP" AROUND AND "NEGOTIATE" PRICES.
(A packet of Winston Cigarettes for example cost P13 in a supermarket, P20 in a sari
sari, P25 from a street seller and as much as P40 in a bar/club, so it is with most
things...so please do not take prices quoted as a rule)
Well that concludes this very long Philippine report. I hope it was of some value
too you. As I have said a lot is down to personal preferences but, I hope this will
act as a rough guide for you. It has only scratched the surface of the Philippines
it really is a beautiful place despite the poverty in places the overall corruption
factor of the Country and the poor roads etc. You will always want to return as did
MacArthur.!!!
More Angeles City Information
Look at these detailed members reports (warning, adult content) for real experiences in these cities by single male (body or mind) travelers. You must be a Tsm member (18 and over) to access!
1) The over-the-hill- gang does Angeles City. Disclaimer first: This report is long. If you like short reports, exit now. Second, I left the identity of the girls I entertained intentionally vague (to respect their privacy). This stuff gets personal. And third, I left out price and bar info, since you can find all of that in the FAQ Background: Had been to the PI once before briefly but wasn 't able to sample the TSM life. Wanted to go back and remedy that. Heard that an old friend (Ackbar) was planning a trip to the PI, so we decided to team up and see just how much trouble two old farts can get into. Quite a bit, it turns out...
2). The bars I liked best were (not in any special order): Lollypop, Mudbones (get here early, I went here two times when most of the girls were already gone), Cozy Cleopatra, The Y, Voodoo, Misty's, Valentines, Illusions, The Club, Champagne and Private Dancer. As well pointed out in the PI FAQ, the bars change from hour-to-hour and day-to-day, -- here is the full report of my trip.
3).By 10 pm I was ready for another night of bar adventure. I had already resolved that I would only settle for another girl of the same caliber as Helen. That was a tall order and I wondered if I was being unrealistic as I was triked down to the strip. The driver deposited me in front of the TAHITIAN QUEEN bar. In TAHITIAN QUEEN I saw a few good looking girls but they were all 8's or less. Don't get me wrong, but I moved on -- this was going to be a special night! (this is a long, very long report with details of almost all the Angeles City bars).
4).Walked into Stingers, OK I'm in love, drop dead stunner smiling back at me. Yes, back in Angeles and it is better than ever! Here is the latest scoop on why this is the best place for single men in the world -- WOW!
5). A realistic and honest report from those that live in Angeles City. Where to stay (and not) where to eat (and not) and most important, which bars are the best and which are not! A must read for those planning to visit! Not only will this save you money, but will greatly increase your fun index of Angeles :-)
