NANA Plaza - What is It?
Nana is probably the favorite of the three major Bangkok adult night-life spots (Patpong,
Soi Cowboy and Nana Plaza). I am not sure regarding the history of NANA but
it would be a good bet that it (like Patpong and the close-by Thermae Coffee Shop) is
also the reminant of the Viet Nam R&R days. Getting here is easy, as this part of
Sukhumvit Road is very touristy and there are many hotels and shops for visitors (i.e. any
taxi will know how to get you here. It should only be about a 40 baht Tuk-Tuk ride between
Patpong and NANA.
Location & Details...
NANA Plaza is located just off Sukhumvit Road
on Soi 4 (a very short half block off Sukhumvit). It is basically a three story, horseshoe shaped
mall of sorts. Having on the street level several open air beer-bar style establishments. Of
course, the usual goes for these bars (i.e. there are many girls behind the bar to entertain
you with their poor english while you nurse your beer). The beer bar girls here (like everywhere)
are available to "take-out" either short or long-time (I have never picked up one of these
so we need some pricing info here from someone who has). However, it is sure that the
beer-bar girl rate would be much less than the 1,000 baht the GO-GO girls are asking for.
Directly behind the beer-bars (which line the inside of the horse-shoe all the way around) are
GO-GO bars on all three levels of the plaza (although the upper levels currently have quite
a few holes in occupancy). These GO-GO bars are not unlike those in Patpong, with the
exception that the girls are decidedly less of a hard sell, the prices (for everything) seem to be
scaled down a notch and the girls themselves are much friendlier. Please note that the wait-staff
girls who serve you your drinks in the GO-GO bars are also available for companionship and many of them will
offer to sit with you while you drink your beer and watch the show (if they are not called on to
serve another near by table). Last time I was here, exactly this happened to me in the Voodoo Lounge and I had an
extended conversation with a nice young girl named Noi who was waiting on me. She sat, put her hand
on my leg and we talked for some time about everything. She was very pretty and a big temptation.
The girls dancing were all quite stunners and seemed that the short time rate was 1,000 baht for the
GO-GO girls and around 500-700 baht for my friend Noi. Actually, choosing a waitress has a lot
of appeal for quite a few reasons (of which I am sure you can figure out -- and not just the
reduced rate). On a side note, one way NANA differs from Patpong is that most of the
GO-GO bar girls dance top-less as much as is possible (something you don't see too much of
in Patpong.)
There are several great GO-GO bars in the plaza. Some of the better ones are Voodoo Lounge,
Pretty Girls, Lollipop, Pretty Girl, G-Spot, HollyWood and Rainbow Bar. Perhaps the best being the
Voodoo Lounge. This bar many times
finds the girls dancing topless and even totally nude on occassion (when the local police are
not present and usually around midnite when they do). The Hollywood has a very nice, clean bedroom
in the back that you can rent to take a girl short-time (rental around 300 baht). Barfines in this area
seem to be currently 250-400 baht (all night buy-out). With the typical asking price for a
short time incounter being 1,000 baht and all night asking price 1,500 baht (actually I could
never figure this out... I mean 500 extra baht doesn't seem like much more money for
a lot more time.) As always, bring your best negociation skills.
Unless you want to get malled by a bunch of pre-op Katoys, then stay out of Cassanovas (or
whatever they are currently calling the bar in the upper left hand corner of the 2nd
floor). Nothing but Lady-Boys in this one and even if you walk by you are going to be
acosted and they will try to drag you in. This happened to me once and only after ordering a beer
and one lady-drink (and having the "lady" put my hand between her legs) did I arrive at
the horror of the bulge underneath her nylons and bathing suit. Needless to say, I set a record
for the 40 yard dash to the door.
